Live Coverage of Events / Journalism

Porter Anderson Media provides packages of event coverage that can be customized to your organization’s needs and activities, whether commercial or non-profit. Standard elements include the following components, chosen in consultation with the conference or other entity:

  • *Live Twitter coverage from the event
  • Pre-event social-media visibility
  • Exposure in columns and posts
  • Social-media offers of discounts and special rates for registrants
  • Pre-event live-chat events on Twitter
  • Creation and maintenance of an Epilogger (liveried as yours for an additional fee, or not)

This form of coverage started for me as a Senior Producer at CNN during the 2008 US presidential campaigns. I generated verbatim quotes in the control room of CNN.com Live. Today, I use Twitter—a social medium heavily favored by the world publishing community—to “live tweet” extensive real-time accounts of commentary from conference sessions via hashtags.

In addition, I provide:

  • Advance Twitter coverage (announcing speakers, sessions, activities in your event, registration news, etc.)
  • Calls to register — many events have me attach discount codes for my readers which, in turn, provide me with a percentage or flat fee for each registration
  • Post-event follow-up and play-out
  • Column coverage of issues and people involved in the event

Rates include transportation to and from the event, lodging, other travel expenses, and stipends.

Here are a couple of special sessions available:

(1) The Town Hall format conference session. This is a themed session using as many as 10 panelists and set in the round, the audience on three sides, panelists on the fourth. The moderator is moving throughout the session (90 minutes to two hours) between panelists and audience members so that the session becomes a dialog (as in a town hall), rather than a stage-to-house presentation.

Representative conferences using this type of session from Porter Anderson Media:

  • Frankfurt Book Fair at CONTEC, a Town Hall on the impact of self-publishing on the traditional industry
  • The Muse and the Marketplace conference in Boston, a Town Hall on the scenario facing writers of literary fiction in a digital environment far less welcoming to them than it is to genre writers

(2) The Staged Interview conference session. This is a dialog between the journalist and a newsmaker held live before the audience and designed to introduce the newsmaker’s key talking points but in a format that doesn’t require the newsmaker to give a speech. Part of the session involves questions from the house (in most cases).
